Songs Composer, Musical Direction

- Julianna Bloodgood -

Galway’s Brú Theatre in association with Galway Theatre Festival present their latest theatrical work this December in Nuns Island Theatre and All Saints Heritage Centre, Clonbur.

Gol (To cry/ weep) features a 5-strong female ensemble and tells the story of the mná caointe, professional grievers intrinsic to Irish life and death for centuries. This evocative, stylised blend of theatrical performance and powerful vocal lament promises to be unique, intimate and darkly humorous.

Audiences will follow the story of Eithne, leader of the community’s caoineadh ceremonies as change comes to her door, threatening the women’s place in society. This newly written work explores what is lost in society as we strive to progress, and how we might grieve differently together as this ancient musical tradition finds its way to a contemporary stage.

Cast includes Julianna Bloodgood (Song of the Goat) Cáitlín Ní Chualáin (Corn Uí Riada winner) Helen Gregg, Lara Campbell, and Ceara Conway.

Original music composed by Anna Mullarkey.

Gol premiere as a multidisciplinary performance this Dec 9th-12th 2021, Nuns Island Theatre and Dec 15th in Clonbur, Co.Galway.
